Christie’s Geneva Auction Nets $40 Million in Sales

Christie’s Geneva Jewels Sale, held Wednesday, realized a total of $40,366,627 (CHF 40,086,025) and was 73 percent by lot. The highlight and top lot of the sale was an antique 26.17-carat, D, internally flawless pear-shaped, type IIa Golconda diamond that sold for $3,483,213 or $133,000 per carat to a private buyer.
Other top lots included a 20.54-carat, D, VVS1, potentially flawless oval shaped diamond that sold for $2,806,509 or $137,000 per carat.
Christie's noted that two Sarpechs created great interest, selling for prices in excess of their top estimates. An emerald and diamond Sarpech, set with six circular diamonds, totaling 70.30 carats fetched $2,242,589 while a diamond Sarpech, with 17 principal diamonds totaling 152.64 carats sold for $1,791,453. A 12.30-carat, SI1, rectangular-cut, fancy intense orangy-pink diamond garnered $1,453,101 or $118,000 per carat.
