Boaz Hirsch, a former Kimberley Process chairman, has been named an honorary member of the Israel Diamond Exchange, the Israel Diamond Institute reported.

Boaz HirschHirsch, deputy director general for foreign trade in Israel’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, had no prior industry experience when he was appointed Kimberley Process chairman.

Avi Paz, president of the Israel Diamond Exchange and the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, said that Hirsch played an exemplary role in the Kimberley Process.

“2010 was a complicated year for the diamond industry as a whole, and we frequently feared that the Kimberley Process would break down, but Boaz played an exemplary role in leading the process forward,” said Paz.
