Jewelry Sales Increase 3 percent in Third Quarter 2010

Third quarter 2010 jewelry spending rose 3 percent overall, reported American Express Business Insights. The average jewelry receipt though rose 6 percent, indicating a reduced number of transactions. The group reported that the transaction volume for luxury jewelry fell 3 percent during the quarter.
Other findings from their report noted that men were responsible for 71 percent of jewelry spending during third quarter. Those shoppers 46 years of age or older accounted for 54 percent of jewelry spending.
The luxury retail sector experienced strong furniture and home furnishings sales with an increase of 13 percent, followed by department stores sales at 10 percent.
