Christie's New York held its magnificent jewels sale on October 18, which garnered $46,599,650 and was 83 percent sold by lot. The top lot, a 32.77-carat, VS2, pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond, sold for $201,000 per carat ($6,578,500) and a 25.74-carat, D, oval-cut potentially flawless diamond ring by Graff sold for $151,000 per carat ($3,890,500), both of which sold within estimate.

A 3.21-carat, VS2, modified pear-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond sold for $846,000 per carat ($2,714,500) and a 20.43-carat, D, VS1 rectangular-cut diamond ring signed by Cartier fetched $103,000 per carat ($2,098,500). An 8.20-carat, pear-shaped fancy purplish pink internally flawless diamond ring by Tiffany & Co. sold for $249,000 per carat ($2,042,500) while a diamond line necklace of 57 graduated pear-shaped D-color diamonds, weighing a total of 123.22 carats, sold for well above estimate at $1,426,500.

One cushion-cut 11.11-carat, D, potentially internally flawless diamond sold for $121,000 per carat ($1,342,500), which was higher than estimate and an 11.05-carat, D, potentially internally flawless pear-shaped diamond fetched $119,000 per carat, or within estimate at $1,314,500. Christie's Art Deco diamond and multi-gem "Tutti Frutti" bracelet, by Cartier, circa 1930, sold well above estimate for $962,500.

Rahul Kadakia, the head of jewelry for Christie's Americas, commented, “Despite recent volatility in the financial markets, the jewelry world continues to hold strong with active participation from top private collectors and members of the trade for superb gems and jewels.

“At $201,000 per carat, the 32.77-carat Vivid Yellow Diamond achieved a sensational price, mirroring the $203,000 per carat realized by The Golden Drop of 18.49 carats at Christie's London back in 1990. Having set the stage for our fall season, we look forward to our November 16 jewelry auction in Geneva.”
