Saks Incorporated will close its Saks Fifth Avenue store located in Stamford Town Center in Stamford, Connecticut during the early part of 2014.
The retailer has operated this Saks Fifth Avenue location since 1983 and it will continue to serve its customers from nearby Saks stores, including one in Greenwich and the flagship store about one hour away in New York City.
Approximately 80 associates are employed in the Stamford store. They will be offered transfer opportunities or will receive separation packages, according to the retailer.
Saks recently announced it would also be closing its Dallas, Texas store and in December it shut locations in Highland Park, Illinois and Austin, Texas. However, Saks opened a new store in Almaty, Kazakhstan in September and added a Saks OFF 5TH outlet in Livermore, California in November. Saks operates 43 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 65 Saks OFF 5TH stores and saks.com.
Steve Sadove, the chairman of Saks, said, “We routinely evaluate the productivity, profitability and potential of each of our store locations and may determine that closing a store is the right course of action from time to time.
“This planned closing is consistent with our strategy of utilizing our resources in our most productive Saks Fifth Avenue stores. We are very thankful for our Stamford associates, many of whom have worked with Saks for a number of years. As always, we are committed to providing our associates with needed assistance during this time.”
