Colombians Attemp to Steal Diamonds at JUNWEX 2013
On the closing day of the exhibition...Four citizens of Colombia attempted to steal Yakut diamonds at the JUNWEX 2013 jewelry exhibition but the police in St. Petersburg, Russia detained the action, local police told Itar-Tass on Monday.
As the exhibition was closing on February 10, the suspects stole a box from an exhibition case, where they hoped diamonds were packed, but instead it contained receipts for bank cards.
The police said the Colombians, who are members of a criminal group, are suspected in a theft of $1.3 million (RUB 40 million) worth of jewelry in February 2012.
Ten members of that group were already detained in Moscow’s Domodedovo airport as they were passing through customs to board a plane bound for Hong Kong. The investigation into that case is underway.
