John Wohlwend, 60, has announced his retirement as CEO of Jack Lewis Fine Jewelry in Bloomington, IL. He plans to use retirement to spend more time on community service and philanthropy, where he already has built a considerable local legacy.
Wohlwend, longtime chairman and CEO of the retail, will transfer the position to company president John Carter.
Jack Lewis has been at its current location, at 1704 Eastland Drive, since 1994 and has fifth-generation customers whose relatives bought from Lewis, Wohlwend said.
Wohlwend purchased the company from the Lewis Family Trust in 1993. He worked with the founder, Jack Lewis, for 20 years before he became president.
“My decision to retire after so many wonderful years was difficult to make but it is time to turn the business over to a new generation,” Wohlwend said in a statement.
“John Carter, my second-in-command, started working for me when he was 15 years old and now it is his turn to carry on the tradition.”
