Auction house Skinner Inc. reported that its fine jewelry auction in Asia grossed more than $3.1 million recently. Skinner's Asian Arts department meanwhile, which has experienced phenomenal growth in the past few years, surpassed expectations during the sale and grossed more than $5.7 million, making it the company's most successful Asian art auction to date.
Highlights from the jewelry sale included a collection of rare Miriam Haskell pieces. But diamonds garnered the most attention and captured the top five lots sold including one platinum and diamond solitaire ring that sold for $207,375. An 18-karat gold, colored diamond and diamond ring fetched $165,900 and a Harry Winston platinum and diamond solitaire sold for $100,725, which was more than double the high estimate. Skinner reported selling another platinum and diamond solitaire ring for $95,985 and a Van Cleefs & Arpels platinum and heart shaped diamond solitaire, which sold for $77,025.
"We are thrilled at the enthusiasm and energy around our recent Asian works of art and fine jewelry sales as buyers and consignors alike acknowledge the excitement and satisfaction of buying and selling at auction -- whether in person, over the phone, or live online," said Skinner's chief executive Karen Keane.
"We're pleased that our integrated auction strategy has paid off with great returns, and we remain dedicated to offering our worldwide audience the chance to bid on the highest quality collections, rare finds, and unique vintage pieces."
