BHP Billiton have sold a 78 carat diamond for $6.1 million, or 78,205.13 per carat.

78 carat rough diamond from EKATI Diamond Mine in CanadaThe rough diamond, which found from EKATI Diamond Mine in Canada, was sold at auction in Antwerp, Belgium, on Monday (February 14).

BHP Billiton owns 80 percent of the Ekati mine.

Prior to the auction, the company, said the stone was potentially the most valuable in the mine’s history.
